Project Elements:

Nashville, Tennessee

Contract Amount: $4,700,000

Total Square Footage: 68,000

Project Overview:

Merit project manager, Doug Sharpe, was the architect and project manager on this 14 screen megaplex theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. This complex was AMC’s first 14-plex and largest complex at the time this was built. The design also included 4,000 square feet of retail for various food and beverage retailers.

The theatre was incorporated as the anchor into a large retail shopping center that over looked a beautiful lake that had a series of fountains and waterfalls. The exterior building materials and colors were dictated by the design of the rest of the shopping center. We were allowed to use some materials that the developer agreed to such as, “Kalwal” over the theatre lobby.

All state and local code authorities had to be consulted as well as the State and local Fire Marshall’s due to the multiple theatre and number of seats that were proposed. All of the officers were assured that generous emergency egress was part of the design. This was a new issue for the authorities since this would be the largest multi-screen complex in the state.
